DETERMINING YOUR ELIGIBILITY

Estimated Costs of Attendance

You should anticipate costs, other than tuition and fees, related to your attendance at Mercer.  These other expenses will not be included on your bill, will vary widely by student, and may include expenses for books, transportation, room and board, and other miscellaneous items.

We have developed an average cost of attendance (COA) for each student who has been awarded federal financial aid funds.  The average cost of attendance is used in conjunction with the Expected Family Contribution listed on your Student Aid Report to determine your financial need.  The average cost of attendance for an undergraduate, independent student who attends Mercer full-time during the Fall and Spring semesters is outlined below:

2007-2008 Costs of Attendance Off Campus With Parents
Tuition & Fees $8,844

$8,844

Room/Board 8,500 1,500
Personal Expenses & Transportation 2,200 2,200
Books & Supplies 1,000 1,000
Total ** $20,544

** $13,544

**  Average loan fees will be added as appropriate

Financial Need

Your financial need is the difference between Mercer's Cost of Education and the Expected Family Contribution reported on the Student Aid Report (SAR). For Example:

Mercer's Estimated Cost of Attendance $20,544
Expected Family Contribution -   4,592
= Financial Need $15,952

Please be aware that we are not always able to provide enough aid to meet every student's total financial need.

Students who do not demonstrate financial need may still be eligible to borrow non-need-based Federal Direct Student Loans.
